Information Technology (IT) Logos - Design and History
|
| The, now well-known, American company Apple was the first computer firm not to use its name as its corporate identity. The idea of selling a computer under the name and image of a fruit was conceived by Californian Steve Jobs and his colleagues (even the word "Macintosh" is the name of an apple variety). The motif of a multicolored apple with a bite taken out of it is a reference to the Bible story of Adam and Eve, in which the apple represents the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. The IBM logo is another logo that is easily identied, especially by anyone in the computer industry. IBM, has been known as "Big Blue" and they have simplified their logo over the years, and their name. What started as International Business Machines is now just "IBM" and the color blue has been a signature in their unifying campaign as they have moved to become an IT services company. | Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 9285 | Print | E-mail | Read more... |

| An update to my posts on Netflix vs Blockbuster. I have switched back to Netflix as I considered the service to be far better. The main reasons were - The queues were virtually never back-logged. Especially with new movies, they are always available unlike what I saw in Blockbuster.
- Netflix has a distribution center in Santa Ana which is very close to where I live and so I always got movies very quickly.
|
- Netflix also has a good selection of Hindi movies or Bollywood movies which I watch very often. The movies take a little bit of time to show up on Netflix (maybe 2-4 weeks) but the choice is good. The only thing I do not like about the Netflix Indian movie section is that one cannot sort by release date making if difficult to find the latest movies.
The new user interface in Netflix where the description of the movies shows up in a pop-up is very good. For the moment, I will stick to Netflix. Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 6719 | Print | E-mail | Read more... |

Miscellaneous Logos - Design and History
|
| McDonald's Corporation is the world's largest chain of fast-food restaurants . Although McDonald's did not invent the hamburger or fast food, its name has become nearly synonymous with both. The McDonald's Golden Arches logo was introduced in 1962. It was created by Jim Schindler to resemble new arch shaped signs on the sides of the restaurants. He merged the two golden arches together to form the famous 'M' now recognized throughout the world. Schindler's work was a development of the stylized 'v' logo sketched by Fred Turner, which was conceived as a more stylish corporate symbol than the Speedee chef character that had previously been used. The McDonald's name was added to the logo in 1968. |
