The Rolls Royce logo consisting of the two Rs  or the double R clearly stands for the Rolls and Royce, the two founders of this car manufacturing company.  There is nothing special about the design of the logo, but the brand name is so strong, the logo looks special.  In 1998, BMW the option on the trademarks, licensing the name and "RR" logo for £40m.

In 1884 Frederick Henry Royce started an electrical and mechanical business. He made his first car, a "Royce", in his Manchester factory in 1904. He was introduced to Charles Stewart Rolls in a Manchester hotel on the May 4 that year, and the pair agreed a deal where Royce would manufacture cars, to be sold exclusively by Rolls. A clause was added to the contract, stipulating the cars would be called "Rolls-Royce".

Is it true that the logo R was coloured red then changed
to black after the
death of Royce.

I've know about that.
The first logo's were both RED
There are logo's with one
red and one black R, later when Rolls past away the two R's become both black.

The date of the change in radiator logo colour from red to black was,
coincidentally, the same year as Royce's death. However it was actually approved
by Royce himself before his death, for aesthetic reasons. It was felt that black
was more suited to the body colours being specified by their customers. Sorry to
dispel the myth!

is it true that rolls royce cars are sold only to multi billioners and there are
certain procedures are to be followed to sell the cars
Stewart Pinkerton   |2009-12-01 04:17:06
No, anyone with enough cash can buy a Roller, and you can sell them any way you
want. They're just BMWs nowadays anyway!

There are absolutely no restrictions on who can buy RR cars, new or secondhand,
other than the ability to pay for them! I have one (not new but in as new
condition) and I am no more than an ordinary working man.
