The first and most important thing you will have to do is determine the keywords you are tuning your website for. The trick here is to determine what your potential users are likely to search for. Also remember, do not try and tune for generic keywords because there will be a ton of other sites who have already tuned for it. Lets take an example. Lets say you have an Indian Restaurant called Banjara Palace in Bangalore. The first instinct may be to tune for "Banjara Palace" or "Indian Restaurant". Anyone who already knows your name is not your target audience, although its important to tune for your name as well. Even if you get in the top list for Indian Restaurant, whats the point, someone in Japan who searches finds you will probably never come to Malleshwaram for lunch.

His Master's Voice, today usually abbreviated to HMV, is a famous trademark in the music business, and for many years was the name of a large record label. The name was coined in 1899 as the title of a painting of the Jack Russell Terrier dog Nipper listening to a wind-up gramophone. In the original painting, the dog was listening to a cylinder phonograph. |
The famous trademark image comes from a painting by English artist Francis Barraud, A.R.A. and titled His Master's Voice. It was acquired from the artist in 1899 by the newly-formed Gramophone Company. According to contemporary Gramophone Company publicity material, the dog, a fox terrier called Nipper, had originally belonged to Barraud's brother Mark. When Mark Barraud died, Francis inherited Nipper, along with a cylinder phonograph and a number of recordings of Mark's voice. Francis noted the peculiar interest that the dog took in the recorded voice of his late master emanating from the trumpet, and conceived the idea of committing the scene to canvas.

Olympics Logos

The Olympic Games are an international multi-sport event subdivided into summer and winter sporting events. The summer and winter games are each held every four years. Until 1992, they were both held in the same year. Since then, the summer games are held during the first year of an Olympiad, the winter games during the third year. The Olympics date back to ancient Greek times, but the Olympic logo was born in 1913. |
The logo was designed by Frenchmen Pierre de Coubertin for the Paris Congress of the Olympic Movement. The logo was first found on a flag and had five interlocking rings, one for each continent represented in the Olympic Movement (with the Americas being treated as one). The six colors were included as well, black, yellow, blue, red, green, and white. The colors were chosen because at least one of the colors is in the flag of the countries that participate in the Olympics. The reason for the interlocking rings on the Olympic flag is symbolic in showing that the Olympic Games are intended for all nations to be able to come and compete against one another in unity.

Logo Parodies

The Beijing Olympics games has attracted its share of controversy because of the fact that the games are being held in China where human rights issues are considered to largely ignored. This has led to a lot of creative logo parodies. This to me has been the best I have come across. I am not sure who to credit for the creation

Everyone has probably heard of IT and Call Center operations being outsourced to India, but did you know that a large number of manhole covers in the United States actually get manufactured in India. A few weeks ago, I was walking in Los Angeles and saw a drain cover manufactured in India. |
Apparently over 600,000 manhole covers in the city of New York are manufactured in India, specially from West Bengal. This practice is not new but has been in existence for over 4 decades. Also, it looks like India is the world leader in manhole cover manufacturing, a little known fact. So the next time you walk over a drain cover in the US, it may have come from India.

Football Logos

With the UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament in full swing, I thought I would explore the Euro 2008 logo. The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2008, is the 13th UEFA European Football Championship, a quadrennial football tournament for European nations. The tournament, which is being hosted by Austria and Switzerland, began on 7 June 2008 and is scheduled to conclude with the final at Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna on 29 June 2008.
|
The logo has the following distinct components
Mountains - Both Austria and Switzerland are famous for their beautiful mountains. The mountains surround the soccer ball and form a large part of the logo. The mountains are in ed which is one of the primary colors in the flags of both countries. The mountains also have a nice delicate shadow as well.
Football - The football has various shades of green in it and is representative of the green mountains of the Alps.
Typography - The text on the logo has representation for the two host countries Austria and Switzerland. The red color also represents the colors of the two countries. The name of the competition Euro 2008 and the name of association that controls all football in Europe, UEFA. UEFA's logo is on the top of a circle, similar to the actual UEFA logo.
