The Sirius logo accroding to the Sirius website has its origins in the astronomy and mythology. Sirius is the brightest star in the Northern Hemisphere which is a great name given the company is in satellite radio. Also, it was named after the ancient Egyptian god Osirus, who was represented pictographically as a dog. Thats the reason, the dog and the star are part of the logo and Sirius is also referred to as the Dog Star.
According to Wikipedia, the dog in the Sirius logo is unofficially named "Mongo", a name garnered from the debut of Sirius Satellite Radio’s sponsorship on Casey Atwood’s and later Jimmy Spencer’s NASCAR entry.
I also subscribe to Sirius Radio and its really worth the money especially if you spend time in your car. They also have the Howard Stern Show, available exclusively on Sirius. Once you get hooked onto this, you will stop listening to regular radio and it may even drop the amount of TV you watch.
