PRATHAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SOUTH ASIA CENTER OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA HOSTS A READ INDIA CONFERENCE
The South Asia Center of the University of Pennsylvania in
collaboration with Pratham hosted a conference on Read India
at UPenn on Oct 3 and 4. The objectives of the conference
were to share experiences of Read India with researchers and
other countries to facilitate cross-learning of experiences.
The conference also sought to build a wider base of
collaborations for inquiry into key dimensions of elementary
education and social campaigns in India. While the Read
India experience provided the anchor for the discussions,
participants used different disciplinary perspectives and
experiences from diverse contexts to enrich the debate on
how to generate and sustain quality learning for children on
a massive scale in developing countries.

PRATHAM :
RESPONSE TO FLOODS
Since 2006, Pratham has been working with Bihar government (BEP)
and UNICEF in many districts in Bihar under the umbrella of
the joint program called SANKALP. Of the badly flood
affected districts, we have worked in Araria since 2006.
Pratham’s work in Katihar, Purnia and Supaul started in
March 2008. Thanks to successful summer camps, for all of
these districts, Pratham has a significant presence and
reach. Madhepura, Saharsa and Khagaria are new districts for
Pratham. We intend to work in these districts as part of the
joint SANKALP teams immediately and in the long run.
We currently have close to 450 full time people in Pratham’s
rural team and we are actively redeploying our team into
these districts to be able to live and work there for the
next 4-6 months and longer as needed.....more
