Paving the Way for “Smoke Free” India
Smoking has been banned in all
public places with effect October 2, 2008. The effort is aimed at
contributing to preventing nearly one million deaths attributable to tobacco
in the country every year and paving the way for a “Smoke Free” India.
Several thousand people, who have
never smoked, die each year due to exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke
which causes cancer and serious respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
‘Smoke Free’ public awareness campaign
has been launched through public notices and advertisements in national
dailies, television/radio spots and outdoor media.
