Actor, Comedian and Impressionist Alistair McGowan, ready to cut the 10th Anniversary Birthday Cake at FIBIS's recent AGM and Lecture Meeting in London on 15th November 2008. Alistair's 5th great-grandfather, Major General John McGowan, of the Bengal Army, (18th Century), was featured in an episode of Who Do You Think You Are in October 2007.
FIBIS has recently achieved its first ten years of existence and one of the lectures given by Chairman Peter Bailey, right of picture, explained how John McGowan was commissioned from the ranks by 'Clive of India' during the Batta Mutiny of 1766.
During the General Meeting, attended by Alistair, and several members of the McGowan family, Peter explained the continuing burgeoning of interest in Family History amongst those with ancestors who lived and served in British India from 1600 to 1947. He thanked his team for their devotion which is resulting in FIBIS's average growth rate of some 20 percent a year.
