Liang stays firm at the top
Chinese star Liang Wen-chong remained firmly at the top of the leaderboard after firing a one-under-par 71 in the second round at the Hero Honda Indian Open on Friday. Liang, who posted a record 60 on Thursday, produced a 13-under-par 131 total for a comfortable five stroke lead over Sweden's Daniel Chopra who shot a 70 in second place at the Delhi Golf Club.

Glock heads Hamilton in Japan practice
Toyota's Timo Glock stole some limelight from championship leader Lewis Hamilton on Friday with the quickest time in free practice at the Japanese Grand Prix. Hamilton, who takes a seven-point lead over rival Felipe Massa into the weekend with three races left, was third fastest overall for McLaren, behind Renault's Fernando Alonso. Massa was fourth on the timesheets with Ferrari team mate Kimi Raikkonen fifth over the picturesque 4.563km Fuji Speedway circuit.

Federer to return for Madrid Masters
Roger Federer confirmed he will take part in the Madrid Masters next week, after a three-week lay-off. The world No 2, who won the Madrid title in 2006 and lost in the final to David Nalbandian last year, took some time out after helping Switzerland beat Belgium in their Davis Cup World Group play-off match last month.

Toe injury forces Del Potro out of Vienna event
Third seed Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina withdrew from the Vienna Open on Thursday because of a niggling toe injury. After suffering further inflammation overnight the 20-year-old Del Potro pulled out of his second-round match with Philipp Kohlschreiber, allowing the German through to a quarter-final meeting with Spanish fifth seed Fernando Verdasco.

Liang fires record 60 for lead
China's Liang Wen-chong fired a record breaking 12-under-par 60 for a five-stroke lead in the opening round at the Hero Honda Indian Open on Thursday. Liang, who was the 2007 Asian Tour's Order of Merit winner, surpassed the previous course record of 10-under-par 62 set by India's Shiv Kapur last year at the Delhi Golf Club.
