MindTree Logo - Design and History
MindTree Consulting is a IT services company from Bangalore. MindTree's logo is a very eye-catching logo due its use of vibrant colors Red, Yellow and Blue. MindTree's visual identity demonstrates the organization's DNA - Imagination, Action and Joy. The upward blue stroke signifies limitless Imagination. The red background symbolises Action, while the yellow dots are the bubbles of Joy. Our identity was designed by Chetan, a student of the Spastics Society of Karnataka. Chetan has learned not to let cerebral palsy hold back his brilliant, creative mind. |
Bacon Alarm Clock
Here is a stupid invention. The Wake n' Bacon is a prototype for an alarm clock that wakes people up to the smell of cooking bacon. Every night before you go to bed, you need to set up the wake up time and also put a piece of bacon in the "clock". Is this how tough our lives have become that we need stupid things like this to wake us up. |
I am quite happy with my 5 dollar radio alarm clock that wakes me up to some nice music. If you snooze, you probably will start a fire with this thing. I am sure this will be a big hit in this country. |
Nike Logo - Design and History
There must be very few people who do not recognize the Nike Swoosh logo. With a big arsenal of superstars such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Andre Agassi, Shane Warne, Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena Williams. This list is pretty long. The company takes its name from the Greek goddess of victory, Nike. |
The Nike "Swoosh" is a design created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company, Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS).
BRS needed a new brand for a new line of athletic footwear it was preparing to introduce in 1972. Knight approached Davidson for design ideas, and she agreed to provide them, charging a rate of $2 per hour.
In June 1971, Davidson presented a number of design options to Knight and other BRS executives, and they ultimately selected the mark now known globally as the Swoosh. Davidson submitted a bill for $35 for her work. (In 1983, Knight gave Davidson a gold Swoosh ring and an envelope filled with Nike stock to express his gratitude.)
Cisco Logo - Design and History
Cisco Systems is the world leader in manufacturing of Network related equipment. The name "Cisco" is not an acronym, but an abbreviation of San Francisco. According to John Morgridge, employee 34 and the company's first president, the founders hit on the name and logo while driving to Sacramento to register the company -- they saw the Golden Gate Bridge framed in the sunlight. |
Design of Corporate Logos
I have added a new section to the site, that contains articles about the history and the design of corporate logos. I have always been interested in the meaning of the design behind some of the corporate logos. In some cases like Cisco, the idea behind the logo is fairly obvious but in case of Fedex, you will wonder why the spent over a million dollars to come up with the logo and why the Nike logo cost only $35.This section of my website list some of the world's most famous corporate logo and attempts to discover the history and the meanings behind them. I hope you find this section entertaining. This week, we take a look at Swoosh, the Nike logo.
